I haven't painted flowers for ages and decided to experiment with a bright exciting effect on a dark background applying gold acrylic paint to the composition.

This is a painting of "The Coffee Cup", a well-known cafe in Hampstead, North London near where I live. I had to work from a photograph I took at the time, because the patrons kept coming and going and wouldn't keep still for me.

Here is another loose study of Port Isaac in Cornwall. Thick lashings of acrylic paint applied fast to give it some life.

I have had a "block" and haven't painted for some weeks. I wanted to start a new, "looser" style and came up with this study.
Acrylic on Canson paper is the technique.

I am experimenting with a different technique using more watercolour and a relatively small amount of acrylic paint and working on Arches paper, which is a delight to use. I am exploring lost and found elements, the use of silhouettes and having fun with the colours.

Inspired by the nonsense rhyme by Edward Lear. I left

out the honey wrapped up in a five pound note

however, being rather tricky to draw!

This is a painting of Sidney Sussex College Cambridge which I painted recently as a commission. The architectural detail was daunting as were the perspective problems, as I was working from an under-exposed photograph which was distorted by the lens which affected the vertical lines. However, it was a challenge which I enjoyed especially when the colours went in and it sprang to life.
